The Developing8 (D-8) Group comprises eight countries; Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Nigeria .This group was established at the presidential meeting held in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1997 with the aim of fostering cooperation and reinforcing economic relations among the eight developing countries.
One of the main objectives of the member countries is to reach a preferential trade agreement to enhance intra-trade and to reach an agreement on administrative assistance in customs matters to support the preferential trade agreement.
Ten meetings were held to discuss the preferential trade agreement as well as the attached protocol of the Rules of Origin . the last one was held in Malaysia in July 2008 followed by the sixth summit.
The sixth summit of the D8 group was held in Malaysia, in July 2008. The Egyptian delegation was chaired by H.E. Mrs. Faiza Abo El Naga, Minister of International Cooperation. D8 members ratified the protocol of the rules of origin during this sixth summit.
It is worth mentioning that member countries have signed the main preferential agreement during the fifth summit that was held in Bali- Indonesia during the period 9-13 May 2006, chaired by H.E. Mrs. Faiza Abo El Naga, Minister of International Cooperation.
