TPAU Vision and Mission

TPAU, a newly established unit at the Trade Agreements Sector, is part of the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s aim to set sectoral strategies to upgrade Egyptian industry and promote exports. The TPAU has the following mission:

“TPAU produces targeted, up-to-date, objective, and high quality economic analysis to support decision-making process in trade policy and trade agreements and negotiations. To do this, TPAU collects trade and industrial data, conducts research and analysis using statistical tools and economic modeling, and disseminates trade policy data & information to the public”.

TPAU Objectives

The unit has a team of five economic analysts headed by a team leader.  All analysts graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University and completed Master's degrees in Business Administration (MBA) specializing in "International markets" from the Arab Academy. Several are also currently enrolled in the AUC’s Masters in Economics program. The team’s work experience ranges between 6-12 years, all within different departments of the foreign trade or trade agreements sectors, thus giving the team good understanding of trade issues that the Ministry deals with. The unit benefits from the support of both the head of sector and the U.S. and EU donor projects, which has allowed its members to benefit from specialized training courses and on-the-job training.

The team has set the following objectives:

  • Contribute to the enhancement of Egyptian exports by evaluating the costs and benefits of bilateral, regional and multilateral trade agreements where Egypt is either an existing or prospective member.
  • Be more responsive to the needs of our internal customers (other departments) in order to produce complete and collaborative trade and economic studies establishing Egyptian trade negotiation positions.
  • Retain and develop highly qualified economic and trade analysts to enhance and improve cost-benefit analyses of Egyptian trade policy.
  • Disseminate trade agreements statistics and news to concerned parties and to the public through the sector website and periodicals.
