Training programs given by The Anti-Dumping, Subsidy and Safeguard staff in the Arab countries
As Egypt was a leading country in establishing an anti-dumping, subsidy and safeguard department, on the level of the Arab and the African countries, many of the Arab countries requested training courses for either governmental officials or business organizations, in order to understand the methods of confronting these practices. In this field, the Anti-dumping, Subsidy and Safeguard Department gave the following countries technical support:
1. Saudi Arabia
Department representatives participated in courses held by the Trade and Industry Chamber in Jeddah, to clarify the anti-dumping and subsidy agreements. The courses were held in Jeddah from 13/2/1999 to 17/2/1999.
2. Jordan
The Department staff provided training programs for officials from the Jordanian Ministry of Industry and Trade. The training programs, which were about anti-dumping practices and trade remedies, took place during the period between 8/1/2001 to 23/1/2001. Many meetings were held with private sector organizations in Jordan to explain anti-dumping and safeguards and how to submit complaints.
3. Sudan
A training program was given to the officials from the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Trade, during the period from 25/2/2001 to 1/3/2001, on the Department premises in Cairo. The program was about the technical and legal methods related to dumping and safeguards and the proceedings of the investigation. Another training program on the same subject was given to the officials of the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Trade, during the period from 15/7/2003 to 7/8/2003, on the Department premises in Cairo.
4. Kuwait
A training program was given to the officials of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Trade in the field of anti-dumping, from 22/6/2001 to 26/6/2001 in Kuwait. The Kuwaiti Minister of Trade met the Department representatives to discuss and share the Egyptian experience. The meeting concluded with an agreement of technical co-operation in this field, which will involve holding training courses in both Cairo and Kuwait.
During the above-mentioned period, the Department representatives held a seminar for Kuwaiti representatives of industrial organizations, in order to explain the anti-dumping agreements, submitting complaints and investigation procedures.
5. Morocco
The Department held a training course for the officials of the Moroccan Ministry of Industry, Trade and Metals between 23/9/2001 and 27/9/2001 in Cairo, about the methods of anti-dumping.
6. Oman
The Department held a training course for the officials of the Omani Ministry for Trade and Industry, from 15/12/2002 to 2/1/2003 in Cairo, on the methods of anti-dumping and safeguards.
