Director General Mr. Pascal Lamy invited WTO members, Observer Governments And Observer International Intergovernmental Organizations for participation in the second global review of aid for trade that will take place at the WTO premises from 6-7 July 2009. The review will measure how aid for trade is doing good, and the recommendations of donors and beneficiaries to maximize the benefits of Developing and Least Developed Countries under the initiative.
The Aid for Trade initiative was launched at the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference in December 2005. The OECD and the WTO have collaborated closely in setting up the aid-for-trade monitoring framework.
The value of monitoring aid for trade lies in creating transparency, and dialogue, to provide ‘more and better’ aid for trade. This monitoring framework involves exchanging information about the value of aid provided by donors, shares received by specific beneficiary countries and, applied policies and approaches to deliver results.
