Trade Policy Review
In order to provide greater transparency and understanding of the trade policies and practices of member countries, the WTO acts as a forum for the periodic review of member countries’ trade policies. Trade Policy Reviews for the top four trading members, currently the U.S., Canada, Japan, and the European Communities (also known as the Quad), are conducted every two years. The next 16 largest trading members’ trade policies are reviewed every four years. Remaining members, including Egypt, have their trade policies reviewed every six years. The second Trade Policy Review of Egypt was held on 24-25 June 1999 and the latest review was held 26-28 July 2005. The TPR process includes the WTO Secretariat submitting a detailed review of a Member’s trade policies, as well as the Government’s presenting its own report about its trade policies. All interested parties are invited to send their questions to the Government in advance of the Trade Policy Review meeting in Geneva (questions as well as answers are included as part of the Minutes of the Meeting).
